Cultural Institutions at COP24, Poland

The Council of the Parties (COP24) is taking place in Katovice, Poland, right now. The goal is to agree on the “rulebook,” the how-to for fulfilling the Paris Agreement. Despite the United States’ intention to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, a coalition of “subnational actors” – those who are not part of the federal government – is stepping up. There is a US Climate Action Center and for these few days #WeAreStillIn is showcasing multi-sector and cross-sector work that demonstrates increased climate ambition (commitments to doing more to slow climate change) and great examples of successes.

Pat Hamilton of the Science Museum of Minnesota is representing the Cultural Institutions sector at the COP by showcasing the work of the museum in partnership with Excel Energy, an energy company that has just committed to providing 100% carbon free energy by 2050.  Here is a recap of first events there, with Pat Hamilton presenting at about minute 25, and action beginning at minute 8. Bravo to Pat and the Science Center of Minnesota, and to the 49 other US cultural institutions who are leading the way.
